SlySi's Cobra (continued) May 2005 - Some changes Right. In a new house. 2 bedrooms (soon to be 1) down from 5 and unfortuately 1.8 car garage down to 1 jap car garage. Not going to be easy working on it here. Do I hire a space elsewhere? My year is up! Am I satisfied with my progress? About here I also decided I wanted to go for an independant rear end. I had enquired about it early on but had left it alone as my chassis and diff were for alive set up. Talked to Colin at KiwiwRaceCars (formerly Graham Berry Race Cars) and he came up with a great deal. He had someone who wanted a live rear end setup. While I could mod mine to taek it he offered to take my chassis, body (they are set up differently too) and diff and supply me with a whole new set with his independant rear system, I pay the extra of course ;-). Sounds good to me. He grabbed mny stuff straight away but it was going to be a little while for the new stuff to come. While I had been reading about the LS6 an interesting fact had caught my eye. One of the main differences between the 285Kw LS6 and 300Kw version was the heads. They were changed a fair bit. Including getting D shaped exhaust ports. Interesting. Wonder how that helps.. lets look at mine to see what they mean.. HANG ON! Mine aren't D shaped at all! Some quick checking of serial numbers and sure enough.. mine are the 285Kw heads! Well.. after a fair amount of time and me supplying all sorts of facts and figures about the heads he admits they aren't the right ones. "But you can throw a cam in it and get 300Kws" So fekin what?! From my reading the later heads flowed much better and would have been a better start point to up the power from there. One of the main reasons I had chosen that sepc. So I asked what they were going to do.. He would find some replacment heads for me. Fair enough. Aus$3500 for a pair of aftermarket heads.. he wants me to pay for them.. FFS! Long story short. He's a plonker. Supplied wrong product (mis represented more like) and didn't back it up. I ended up sending the heads back to him and getting a refund for them. It took 2 months to sort this shit out. So.. now I don't have any heads.. My 'budget' (ha ha) doesn't allow for any heads.. but I need heads! Look around a bit. Try to get hold of a guy in states who everyone raves about his heads.. he goes AWOL and lots of bad things start being said.. not workmanship just money/delivery. Oh well.. end up going for a package of Patriot Performance Stage 2 LS6 heads, complete with dual valve springs, cam and some roller rockers. Nice. Not too much more money spent.. REALLY!!.. Now I have 2 cams. They are not hugely different in spec and after doing some fiddling with some dyno software decide to keep the Comp Cams one in and hold onto the Patriot one.
Oh well.. I suppose a few more horepower wont hurt..
