SlySi's Cobra (continued)

March 2010 - Tuning.

It's 28 February 2010..

Vehicle is back together. Booked for its tuning run on dyno 01-03-2010.

Have rung certifier to book in Low VOlume Certification for a scratch built vehicle but he's away until Monday.

From when he sings it off there's a couple of weeks until the plate tturns up then off to get it VINed.

Could be legal by April. When does winter kick in... grrrrrrr

Another feature I am putting in the car is a carputer. It's a full computer system, Athlon x3 Processor with 8" touch screen. Had Windows Vista Ultimate 64 but will take it to Windows 7 when I get it.

This will run GPS Sat Nav, Audio routed through Alpine Amp and speakers and the engine management software will be permanently hooked up for montioring sensors etc. Shouldn't really have to alter the tune too often :-) Screen has TV built in and facility for video input so might put a reversing camera on it. Paging alarm systema and also have a GPS locator to install.

Sunday 7 March 2010.

Tuning is done. Best figure I saw was 299rwkw (398rwhp), allowing 15% loss around 344kw (460Hp) at the crank. Was expecting a bit more than that. Not that it really matters. When I started the project I wasn't going to touch the long block. Only the heads fiasco pushed that along but still... there's never enough power! Save shaving to diet. Don't know the torque yet as the figures I saw I didn't believe, or I was reading the display wrong.. 1275 lb/ft

OK. Some vids. Taken on my phone, Samsung I8000, which didn't like the volume in the booth :-) Should damned well hope so!!

Dynopack Dyno. Hubs bolted to the dyno so no wheel slip is interference.

Andre also tried without the intake system but it made no real difference which he felt was odd.

I asked Speedtech to do a wheel alignment as the wheels were all over the place. They rang and mentioned that all the suspension arms were loose and was it ok for them to tighten them before doing the alignment.. Then they still weren't happy and have asked to get another guy to have a look tomorrow to check it over. This shit has to end soon!

Should be able to pick it up tomorrow afternoon. Have called the certifier in Levin, Andrew Smith, and he was supposed to get back to me with a booking for this week. I' think I'll sneak it home into the garage until he confirms.

I am seriously out of money at the moment and there's quite a few bills due in. Finishing the Cobra, my ZX9R VINed for sale. My R1 chain tensioner failed and it jumped a tooth at low revs and damaged 5 valves. That cost a bit to sort and typically just when I didn't need any extra bills.. Oh well. It's still a great bike and now nearly owes me what it would to buy one on todays market. I'll start a section for that when I'm bored next.
